CLASS SUMMARY:
Incumbents perform supervisory level activities in support of maintenance and operations activities and directives in assigned area of responsibility. Depending on assignment, typical duties may include: supervising staff; supervising day-to-day operations and activities; participating in the development of unit goals, objectives, and budgets; preparing department reports; monitoring and maintaining appropriate levels of inventory; resolving complex customer complaints; overseeing regulatory compliance; and/or, performing other related activities. Supervisors oversee staff including conducting performance evaluations; coordinating training; and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.


TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1. Supervises day-to-day operations in assigned area of responsibility, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating projects, processes, costs, procedures, systems, and standards; developing and coordinating work plans; inspecting in-progress and completed work to ensure conformance with established standards; assisting staff with complex activities and/or maintenance jobs; participating in the development of goals, objectives, and budgets; and, ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
2. Supervises Maintenance and Operations staff and/or contractors to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; processing payroll and accounts payable; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; and implementing hiring, termination, and disciplinary procedures.
3. Promotes and advances safety and efficiency of equipment by coordinating inspections, repairs, maintenance, and the operation of equipment and vehicles; coordinates or participates in purchasing supplies, equipment, and resources; and may obtain quotes for equipment.
4. Prepares, maintains, updates, and/or submits reports, records, bills, work orders, logs, and other documentation; and uses, maintains, and/or updates databases and computerized systems and software; work may involve compiling and/or coding data.
5. Identifies, responds to, investigates, and resolves complex issues and concerns from customers or related to safety issues; conducts follow-ups to determine customer satisfaction and service quality
6. Coordinates with internal/external departments, personnel, and agencies, and participates in a variety of meetings to receive and communicate information, and facilitate and evaluate operations and processes.
7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

FUNCTIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Positions assigned to Park Operations may be responsible for:

  • Supervising staff in the park operations division, including full-time, part-time and contract employees; work may involve determining requirements for daily operational activities, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and/or assisting staff with irrigation and repair issues.
  • Inspecting department vehicles and equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Inspecting sites, landscaping, irrigation, and evaluating maintenance and safety needs.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in assigned area of responsibility, including 2 years of lead or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
-CPR Certification
-Irrigation Technician Certification
-Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator with 3A Landscape Maintenance Category

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; intense noise; and other environmental conditions, such as, challenging behaviors, imminent danger, and threatening environments.
