CLASS SUMMARY:
Incumbents perform advanced journey level maintenance and/or operational activities and serve as a crew leader or supervisor in assigned area of responsibility. Depending on assignment, typical duties may include: coordinating the work of lower level staff; troubleshooting the most complex problems; providing customer service; operating and maintaining complex instrumentation and/or equipment; maintaining equipment; preparing work schedules; compiling data and preparing reports; monitoring compliance of safe work practices and procedures; and maintaining an assigned inventory; prioritizing work.


TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

1.

Serves as a crew leader and coordinates the work of lower-level staff, to include preparing work schedules, and monitoring work quality and compliance of safe work practices and procedures; maintains an inventory to ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment.

2.

Determines and troubleshoots the most complex problems related to the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

3.

Performing and coordinating simple to the most complex fleet maintenance and repair activities; work may involve maintaining service logs and records, scheduling oil changes and inspections; and diagnosing and troubleshooting the most complex fleet maintenance-related issues.

4.

Processing and coding maintenance-related and purchase invoices and bills.

5.

Inspects, operates, and maintains complex vehicles, tools, and equipment, including, but not limited to, hand and power tools, gauges, volt meters, radiators, safety devices, computer controls, converters, compressors, jet trucks, and/or bull dozers.

Provides customer service and coordinates with the public, vendors, and other internal/external departments or agencies, to provide assistance and information regarding schedules and ongoing operations, respond to work orders and customer/departmental requests, address and resolve complaints, conduct follow-ups, and facilitate the most complex maintenance activities and other departmental operations.

Prepares, maintains, updates, and/or submits reports, records, bills, work orders, logs, and other documentation; and uses, maintains, and/or updates databases and computerized systems and software; work may involve compiling and/or coding data.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of increasingly responsible experience with emergency vehicles, medium/heavy trucks, or equipment repair and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on assignment, may require:

-Class B CDL

-Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification

-Suspension and Steering Repair Certification

-Brake Repair Certification

-Medium Duty Brakes Certification

-Medium Duty Drive Train Certification


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Supervisory/Lead worker principles and duties;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; and intense noise.
