Police Cadets are non-sworn personnel who are pursuing or intend to pursue certification in a certified police academy and obtain a peace officer license with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Individuals selected are expected to agree to serve a minimum of three years with the department after graduation.
Police Officers ensure the safety and security of City streets, buildings, residences, and neighborhoods. Typical duties may include: maintaining readiness for emergency call response; responding to emergency calls when dispatched and taking proper action; conducting patrol; issuing citations; collecting evidence; preparing incident reports; educating staff and public on crime safety/prevention; and performing other related activities.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

Responds to routine and complex emergency requests and situations; maintains readiness for emergency calls; and answers and responds to radio or telephone dispatches |

Performs patrol of assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, or in patrol cars; responds to citizen requests or service dispatches; quells disturbances; investigates suspicious or illegal activities, persons, or establishments; enforces applicable laws related to protection of life and property. |

Conducts interviews and questions witnesses, victims, and suspects; collects and preserves evidence; secures crime scenes; issues warnings and citations; arrests and transports violators to assigned facilities; and/or inspects prisoners and jails for weapons or contraband. |

Coordinates with and provides information to staff and the public to disseminate educational information on crime safety/prevention. |
5. |
Prepares and maintains suspect illness and injury, accident, arrest, and other critical incident, and administrative reports, records, logs, and other documentation. |
6. |
As assigned, may serve as detectives, drug enforcement task force members, school resource officers, identification officers, field training officers, or perform other assigned functions |
7. |
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level |
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 30 semester hours of college credit with a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). |
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Valid Texas driver's license. |
